Standby’s Future is Lighter, Safer and More Sustainable
At Standby, we are taking the leap forward into sustainable energy by transitioning from our petrol-powered equipment to battery powered equipment. The benefits of this transition include a more environmentally friendly way of working, lighter weight gear so that our crews can focus on speed and quality of delivery less chance of injury, with higher up-time owing to increased reliability – creating time and cost savings that we can forward to our customers.
According to statistics published by the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a new petrol-powered lawn mower running for an hour emits the same levels of volatile organic compounds as 8 new cars driving 55 miles per hour for the same amount of time.
This problem is amplified for property maintenance companies like us, that have set ambitious sustainability goals. While electricity is still being used for battery-powered machinery, this massive reduction is just the first step of many on our journey for sustainable excellence in our workspace.
According to the EPA, the replacement of 1.000 petrol-powered tools with battery-powered ones would spare the air more than 19,000 pounds of toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) every year.
After reading these statistics, this was a no-brainer for us to make the decision to transition to battery-powered tools across our operations, commencing this (F20) fiscal year.
